blow out

In Laguna Beach the weather always calls for some version of nice. Sun. Sun with a few puffs of clouds. Sun with a breeze. It is no wonder these long time residents are always in such a good mood. Those of us who hail from New York, as I may have mentioned before, are a bit cynical of sunny niceties. We need a good storm, or someone with an attitude, to show that the world is right.

Since last night it has been windy, the kind of wind that blows your lawn paraphernalia into a neighbor's yard. The ocean is wild with passion. There is not a surfer in sight. This reminds me of the weather in East Hampton when a hurricane approaches. It is exciting. People are preparing for the hysteria to come. Wind chimes rattle and then fall to the ground. I can hear our chunky buoys clank about, this is a first for me.

Jacqueline,

Reading your editor's notes for the past couple of years in Romantic Homes, I feel as though I already know you (a little anyway). I am glad to have made your aquaintance via blogland and plan to frequent Four Tides as an encourager and friend.

Oh, and you must feel so lucky to have Janet as a friend. She is truly an inspiration and sincere friend.

I have just come across to your blog from your' forever friend' at French Blue. Love it , I am now a follower, love seeing what other people are doing around the world. Come over & see me at Hope Island Home & Living (Australia). I am currently renovating our house (things have slowed down at the moment & my camera was sent of to be repaired 3 weeks ago , so my blog has gone in a different direction at the moment)

Hi found your blog from French Blue!! I love Romantic Homes Magazine. How fortunate to have such a great job!

Please stop by my blog to read about our house that we have renovated. I started posting the before and afters. We have a French Normandy home that was built by the engineer of the Empire State building as his summer home.

Just got here from the French Blue. Lived most of my life by the sea... in several countries and many States. Every place has its sounds and its tides. I think I will enjoy it here. :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! French Blue sent me over, and my, did she have wonderful things to say about you!

I love your description of you little part of the world. We are getting wind storms here in MN, but on Saturday we are also supposed to be getting some snow! I would much rather be listening to your buoys clanging about than thinking about living in a state that has snow in May!

Wow- so beautifully written. We visit California several times during the summer months, Laguna beach is a favorite, such a pretty place. So happy to have found your beautiful blog. Your sweet friend French Blue loves you :)

Agree! I love approaching storms - it's the same wherever you are. In the deep South (no coastline - and no horizon line to predict darkening weather) the first storm sensation is usually smell: earthy, damp smell, as if the rain has already begun. I love watching storms come up in the foothills of Appalachia - wind funnels through mountain passes and into the planted valleys, whipping wheat and corn into green waves. But I doubt the farmers are appreciative!

I could never live in California, or anywhere where it is cheerful all the time...growing up on the east coast, living within a stone's throw of the Atlantic, I need stormy blue water, rain, and grey skys. All that sunshine on the west coast would depress the hell out of me.
